Advertising Agency
You are a business owner and you want to market your product. You want your business to be successful, to profit, and you know you need to advertise. Although you may be an expert in your business, you may not have the experience or skills necessary to produce a successful advertising plan. This is where hiring the experts comes in. Here is the hard part, choosing the right ad agency or consultant that will best fulfill the needs of your business. With the thousands of ad agencies and consultants available, choosing the right one can be challenging and overwhelming. Advertising is expensive, and if your ad agency fails you, not only will your profits decrease, but you will lose a lot of money from your advertising investment. When sifting through the endless amounts of ad agencies, you should consider some guidelines. These guidelines will assist you in narrowing down your choices, so that you can more easily choose the perfect advertising agency to promote your business.
Before you begin searching, look at your budget. How much can you afford to spend, and how much are you willing to dish out toward your advertising plan? The first thing that most agencies will ask is what are you prepared to spend. Larger agencies may not even consider taking your business unless you are going to spend a certain amount of money. Knowing your budget is the first step in narrowing down your possible choices. Also find out whether the agency charges based on commission or whether you pay a flat fee and if this fee covers all expenses. Be leery of hourly fees. If paying hourly, it is best to require the agency to include in the contract the maximum time they will spend on your account and what their rates will be. Always get it in writing.
The next factor to consider is the size of the agency you are looking to hire. If you choose a large agency, you must realize that your spending level also depends on the amount of attention larger agencies will spend on creating your advertising plan. If you are prepared to spend the big bucks, then using a larger agency that has more resources may be for you. Furthermore, you will more likely be their priority. But if you are a smaller business, and your budget is limited, then you will want to choose a smaller ad agency. Another advantage to choosing a smaller agency is that it is more guaranteed that you will be working with them on a more personal level, you will be their high priority, plus you are more likely to have access to the people that run the agency.
Also, consider the location of the ad agency. If you choose one that is far away, are you prepared to communicate online, by fax, or via phone? If you prefer working with the agency in person, then you want to choose an agency that is located near you.
Know what results you are looking for and be prepared to inform the agency of your company's objectives. The agency you choose needs to have an understanding of your business and how you want your business portrayed to future customers. They should also be knowledgeable of your competitors. Their capability will be reflected through the advertising and marketing strategy they propose to you.
Inquire about the credentials of the agency and its employees. What is their record? Do they consistently achieve growth and profit for other clients? Remember, generating profit is why you need them, if their past and current work does not project profit, then find an agency that does. Employees should have the education, expertise, loyalty, and talents to meet your advertising needs. Be sure to view samples of their work through different advertising media. It is to your advantage to have an agency that specializes in more than one media. Having the choice of using various media allows you to reach a greater population of consumers. Ask yourself if the agency's strategies and methods shown in their past work reflect what you want portrayed through your advertising.
Once you have narrowed down your choice, be sure you get everything you expect from the agency in writing. Make sure that the rates, the services that will be provided, and the name of the employees assigned to your account are all included in the contract. Once you have used these guidelines and found that perfect agency, enjoy the growing success and let the money roll in.
