Choosing a caterer can be one of the most important decisions you will need to make for your special event. Choose your caterer early. A good caterer can be booked up as far as a year ahead, so be sure and start your search as early as possible.

Some questions to ask your self before searching for that perfect caterer:
What type of event will be taking place?
Who will attend and how many guests can you expect?
How many servers will you need?
Where will this event take place?
What do you expect the caterer to provide?
What type of food will be needed for this special occasion?
What type of seating arrangement would you like?
How much is in your budget?

Once these decisions are made, it will be easier to let the caterer know what is expected of them for this special event. You will want to ask the caterer if they provide any table decorations, or other
decorations. Ask if you will need to have tables provided for them. What will the catering staff wear? You may want to suggest different attire, depending if your special event is formal or informal.

If you have guests with diet concerns, make sure that your caterer has a plan, such as a choice of vegetarian meals. Also make sure that the caterer has a backup plan if more guests than expected show up. Finding a caterer you can trust is essential.

You will want to make sure the caterer you choose is licensed and insured. The caterer should provide workers compensation for their employees. You will also want references. Be sure to check those out. Ask how the food will be provided and if it will be cooked on site or delivered. A long list of references does not mean they are a good caterer. It's usually best to hire a caterer that has been in business a long time. Don't forget to taste a sample of the food. This can make or break your special event.
